So it is official. The next installment of the newest Batman franchise will film in my hometown of Pittsburgh , this summer. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/s_730777.html?_s_icmp=NetworkHeadlines
There has been many note worthy movies filmed in “Da Burgh” in the past such as, Silence of The Lambs, Groundhog Day, Dogma and Inspector Gadget. Ok, scrap Inspector Gadget; my son didn’t even like that one!
Anyway, the opportunity of getting a movie like, The Dark Night Rises is big news to us small town peoples. This aint New York or Hollywood - its Pittsburgh . We go fracken nuts when we see a celebrity. Hell, we get all misty-eyed when cashier at Starbucks has an accent. I myself have only one brush with celebrity-ism and that was seeing Jay Leno back in 1985 at a hotdog shop at the University of Pittsburgh wearing a cheap parka on a cold winter night. It was way before he had the Tonight Show gig and Armani suits but I use that story at any chance when a name dropping opportunity arises.
I’m not about to make a collective plea to the citizens of my home town to act appropriately and with dignity in the face of such acting greats as Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. Truthfully if I saw Anne Hathaway crossing at a downtown street corner, I’m sure I would end up in the path of a commuter bus trying to get a better look.
It should prove to be an interesting summer and with any luck, I will be hanging out at one of the outdoor locations and be able to send back a few photos of the events.
