I received a sad call the other day when the manager of one of the local Borders Books where I have book signings had to cancel my upcoming event because they are in liquidation. Starting off as a self published author, the Borders in my area have been more than generous as they support local authors. As I write this blog, I am remembering how scared I was at the first few signings. There I was sitting alone at a table in the front of the store, attempting to “act” natural with my books, a pen, and a sign with my name on it and wondered what the hell I was doing there!
Borders gave me opportunity to interact with you, the public, and for us to get to know each other on a personal level. It also gave me the opportunity to stop being such a wallflower and get in there and have some fun!
Baptism by fire does produce results.
To those followers and fans that have stuck by me with my first novel and waited anxiously for my second; hang in there as the world of publishing aint done with this kid yet! More to come on that later when the gag order is lifted. In the meantime, my next local appearance will be at the Bridgewater Book Fest, in lovely Downtown Bridgewater Pennsylvania, September 10th from 10am – 3pm. http://www.bridgewaterbookfest.com/ There is also a rumor that a certain local author will speak at this event as well - wink wink!
So farewell Borders and the wonderful employees, I will miss you not only as an author but as a customer.
