Ghosts of the 1800s

October has always been one of my favorite months! It’s been many years since I’ve tossed on a costume and walked the streets as any character of my liking at Halloween, (ok, some of you remember me in drag the last couple of years but, hey, it’s my story; I’m reminiscing here!).
Being a writer is just as fun because we can do the character thing all year long!

My current project has me as a fourteen year-old boy taken off a dismal farm in the Mid West and escorted into high society of the late 1800s in a very Citizen Kane type plot with a more supernatural and diabolical twist than Orson Wells could have hoped for. Dressing as a character is only half the fun.  As the above photo shows, dress for a young man was rather drab but the faces of these boys could come from any time period. Now imagine  walking about in a city close to the turn of the century where electricity was a new invention and worked sporadically, deliveries were made in the city by horse and buggy and mass transit consisted of trolley cars that ran along congested, muddy streets.

So this is where I am in my head this October.  Have a great season!
