BEA NYC Highlights, Lowlights

I have decided instead of making one long involved blog about my trip to NYC & Book Expo America, I would pepper you all with small snippets of my travels.  This next story shows you can’t always get what you want.

Going home from the upper west side, I decided to take a bus back to my hotel in  northern NJ.  As luck would have it, I got on the wrong bus and where I wanted to get off somewhere in the 1300 block of the street that ran past my motel. I peered out the window as noticed we were in the 4700 block and climbing!  Wowzers!  I began walking, and walking and more walking.  The only shade in the 85 degrees and humid day was from an overpass in the middle of industrial New Jersey nowhere.  When I finally saw familiar surrounding I was still 3 miles away and decided to take a taxi as I had a meeting that evening and didn’t want to show up for it wiped out and dehydrated.
For going 3 miles the taxi charged me $9.80 (notice how I remember the exact amount?).   Disgruntled but home, I rested, made it to my meeting.
The next morning I walked to the motel lobby for coffee and a bagel and, to my surprise, saw a $10 bill lying in the parking without another soul around.  Clearly, the Gods may not have had my best interests in mind over the last 24 hours but, I am not above taking pity from a higher power.
